Cross Country | Code of Conduct

FPHS & FPMS Cross Country
Team Rules & Policies
Code of Conduct

As a member of the FP Cross Country team, you represent yourself, your family, your coaches, the program, and Fort Payne High School in everything you do. Student-athletes are held to a higher standard than other students. Anything you say or do—whether at practice, competitions, on campus, or on social media—reflects back on the program and the school.

Please conduct yourself in a respectful and appropriate manner at all times.

Specific Rules & Policies

COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR COACHES!!

PAPERWORK

  • Current Physical (DragonFly)
  • Concussion Form (DragonFly)
  • AHSAA Consent Form (DragonFly)
  • NFHS Sportsmanship Certificate (DragonFly) *
  • Fort Payne Athletic Handbook Form
  • FPCS Consent & Release Form (DragonFly)
  • Proof of Insurance (DragonFly)
  • Emergency Contact Info Sheet

* Only required once in athlete's career.

ACADEMICS

You are a student first. You are responsible for making up assignments outside of practice. Communicate with teachers and coaches.

Athletes

Practice

  • Practice is required every day.
  • Excused absences must be approved by Coach Talley or Coach Shaddix.
  • Unexcused absences: birthdays, transportation issues, work, etc.
  • Excused absences: sickness, injury, death in immediate family, etc.
  • Unexcused absences require a make-up workout after school.
  • More than one unexcused absence may result in dismissal from the team.

Injury / Illness

Inform coaches ASAP. Do not self-diagnose. Most of the time athletes can dress out and cross-train during practice.

Proper Attire

  • Required: proper shoes, socks, shorts, weather-appropriate gear.
  • If not properly dressed, this counts as an unexcused absence.
  • Athletes must wear school colors when traveling to meets.

Transportation

  • Pick-up must occur at the end of practice (no later than 3:45–4:00 PM).
  • Athletes must be on time for meet departure.
  • Bus leaves 5 minutes after scheduled departure.

Varsity Letter

  • Athletes must compete in at least 2 varsity meets.
Parents
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all practices and competitions.
  • Support the team by volunteering (snacks, banquet, donations).
  • Please pick up your athlete on time or make transportation arrangements.

Communication is the key to a successful season!

I have read and understand the guidelines outlined above. The FPXC program is committed to providing a safe and fun environment. Coaches reserve the right to sit out any athlete who is disruptive or not behaving properly during practice.
